TL;DR

  • Monerium, Frax and Capa have launched an EURe/frxUSD liquidity pool on Uniswap v3 on Polygon.
  • EURe is a MiCA-compliant euro e-money token backed 1:1 by safeguarded euro reserves.
  • The pool gives payment and treasury applications a direct onchain euro-dollar conversion route.

Polygon now has a live euro-dollar foreign-exchange pool designed around stablecoins rather than bank-market hours.

Monerium, Frax and Capa launched the EURe/frxUSD pair on Uniswap v3 on October 1, giving applications on Polygon a direct route between regulated euro liquidity and dollar-denominated stablecoin liquidity.

For ordinary traders, it is another DEX pair. For payment companies and treasury applications, the more interesting feature is that currency conversion can happen on the same network as settlement.

EURe brings regulated euro money into the pool

Monerium’s EURe is an electronic-money token backed 1:1 by safeguarded euro reserves and issued under a European regulatory framework.

frxUSD supplies the dollar side of the pair. Capa is involved in the liquidity and market infrastructure connecting the two assets.

The result is a route where an application can potentially receive euros, convert to dollar liquidity onchain and continue moving funds without sending each step back through a separate offchain FX intermediary.

Polygon’s stablecoin role was already expanding before this FX pool. The network said it processed around $80 billion in stablecoin volume in May, while other financial firms have been testing how tokenized money can integrate with familiar payment systems.

Onchain FX is becoming a real product category

Stablecoins solved one part of cross-border value transfer: moving a token representing a currency outside bank opening hours.

They do not automatically solve foreign exchange.

If euro and dollar liquidity sit in separate pools, users still face slippage, fragmented markets and conversion costs. A deeper direct pair can make stablecoin payments more useful to businesses that operate in more than one currency.

The same principle is showing up on other networks. Bitcoinist has covered tokenized sterling deposit payments by major UK banks and the expansion of Solana-based stablecoins into mainstream financial products.

Liquidity will decide whether the route matters

A pool can be technically live and still be economically unimportant if it remains shallow.

For businesses, spreads and slippage matter more than the novelty of swapping currencies onchain. The next stage is therefore about depth, usage and integration into payment applications.

The launch gives Polygon a credible regulated euro-dollar building block. Whether it becomes useful infrastructure will depend on how much real transaction flow follows.
